Alex was born in Shanghai, China. At the age of three, he was taken to Harbin and at nine, in 1951, to Sydney, Australia. After an active career as a Professional Engineer and a long record of civic and community involvement, he retired and lives with his wife Alexandra in Castle Hill. They have two children and four grandchildren. In Nov 2008 he was awarded as Laureate-grand-finalists in a Sydney Book Festival.

The author provides short chapters with to the most part, clear points and conclusions. At its finest, Vassilieff uses language so well that the reader is prompted to learn more about Russian art and through this, to consider some of the darker aspects of the story. This is very good writing and the points made are subtle and wry with a generous humour. There is very little convoluted or over emotional indulgence and the story flows clearly and with almost no dull patches. The author has packed around his family's history some interesting asides about cuisine, theosophy, art, music and literature, the effects of the war on ordinary lives and the hard work, sense of freedom and ultimately the development of families thrust into a new and totally different country.

The introduction is very well managed. The author has chosen to highlight the period of Russian history that ordinary or lay readers often do not understand - the effects of the arrival of the Viking warriors and how this can be traced and understood to have lead to the fall of the Romanov Empire are excellently drawn together. Spanning Old Russia to the Russian Diaspora., the content provides much historical information sourced from a diverse collection of Russian chronicles and history. However the human interest is continually brought to the fore through the interweaving of personal accounts, reflection and, as the author attests, an anthropological and forensic application to what he recalls and has been told.

There are many POD Publisher's out the that offer various publishing packages to author's. Some of them have some very attractive sites with endless pages to take in that offer lots of information. I have spend endless hours reading all the content on many POD Publisher's sites. That's a lot of reading and by the time you get to reading the publishing contract, things can get somewhat confusing.

Let me encourage you to take you're time when choosing a POD Publisher. Take the time to read "all" the content on the site, all the pages and do comparisons with other POD Publishers. There are some great POD Publisher's out there that offer some great publishing packages.

Do you're homework, find the right publisher for you, and get the best deal. Most importantly think things through from start to finish to make sure that the POD Publisher that you choose fits into you're overall vision and objective for you as a author and you're book.

With the holiday season soon coming, what a great time to get some great books and catch up on some reading. There's nothing better than a warm fire on a cold winter evening, a cup of java and a great book to read.

I use many online book stores to search for great books at great prices. From Amazon to Barnes & Noble to simply performing searches online. Another great place to look for books is Deal Oz

Ideas are great, however too many ideas are like confusion springing forth. For example if you have four great projects in the frying pan, let em cook until there done. Don't throw 10 more projects in the same pan, you'll just burn everyone out. Focus is more than a saying. It must be applied, walked out and tried. Focus is not hocus pocus, it's focus.

It's better to stay the course and to stay focussed than to end up with a can of marbles that just make a lot of noise. After a while, no one will want to hear the marbles rattling around.

Life is full of memories and we all have memmories that we cherrish. However, sometimes life also comes with memories that we would prefere not to ponder. Hopefully we all have learned lessons from those seasons and memories.

It's important to be about moving forward and leaving some of our yesterdays behind us. For we never want to become stuck in the quicksand of bad memories and the cards that life sometimes deals us. For today and tommarrow brings new challenges and victories to be won.

It's one thing to fail and from time to time, we can all fail at things. However, to just give up and quit out of fear of failure, well that is a crime. A crime against all those whom believed in you.

Here's a pretty neat site that I came across. It's called the Free Cycle Network. It's made up of 4,808 groups with 6,540,000 members around the world. They say its a grassroots movement of people who are giving and getting free stuff in their own communities. What's cool about it, is it's all about reusing good stuff and keeping it out of the landfills. Great idea! Plus you just might find some really cool items for free ....

I guess that would be one definition of my daughters personality. She's wacky and fun. Actually for being almost 5 year old she's a pretty bright kid. You have to over look the Sponge Bob inpersonations though. Funny the things kids do. Anyway she's a blast and I am so thankful to God for such a wonderful daughter.

Children bring joy to our lives, they are blessings from above and they are a special part of all our lives. We should all make time and take time to spend quality time with our children. They have so much to teach us and we have so much to learn from them. Like how to enjoy the simplicity of life.
